Spending Money On Leads?

Are you spending too much money on leads like I did? I won't mention company names since I might get into hot water, but all I will tell you is I average over $100 spending on lead companies and I still have some people who say that they don't recall filling out a survey.

Some lead companies sell leads that are exclusive to the company you work with, but I believe this is an understatement because in the first place how did these people know they want to work with this company to begin with. For example, I got a phone call from the one of the lead company reps and was told that these leads have already shown interest in working with this company.

Apparently, I didn't buy them because they are way too expensive. If I use an expensive bait and caught no fish, I wouldn't get my money's worth and can go bankrupt real quick.

The next best thing for me is to do Google Adwords and Yahoo Search. With the use of the ideas that I got from Magnetic Sponsoring, I was able to generate my own product leads and I'm getting them like hotcakes. However, I'm also focusing on getting leads so that I can sponsor those who wanted to join my team, but because of the competition in trying to get people to join you, I would have to find other ways in generating those leads.

Although I haven't put buying home based business leads in the back burner, I would make sure that I take the most economical route in getting those leads. However, I want to get a good return of investment.

What Expenses Can Be Deducted In Your Home Based Business

It's almost tax time and we all have to file our taxes. Some of you would be dreading this time of the year because you may have to look for your paperwork, receipts, your earnings, and probably the previous year's tax return. Unless you run your home business as a corporation when you can choose which month do you want to end your year, it otherwise ends in December 31.

The only thing I could say is anything you spend that's incidental to running your business is deductible. However, any assets like furniture, computers, vehicles, and perhaps a portion of your house may need to be depreciated for several years. Furniture usually takes about 10-15 years, computers are usually 3 years, and vehicles are 5 years. Books and training you purchase may be deducted as an expense in its entirety, like the Magnetic Sponsoring book. How about leads that you purchase? They are deductible since they are incidental to running your business. Trips to convention (including hotels, rental cars, convention fee, and plane tickets) are deductible.

I'm sure there are many more, but if you don't know what you're doing, I highly recommend that you consult a certified public accountant (CPA). I recall the guy who played "Uncle Jesse" in the Dukes of Hazzard TV Show, the late-Denver Pyle, has hired an accountant to keep track of what comes in and out of his bank account and because of that, he was able to focus in his acting career. Thus, if you want to spend more time focusing in your business, just hire a CPA to free you with the worries.

Why should you do a home-based business

First of all, the main reason for starting your home-based business is to take total control of your life.

You can do what is called a brick-and-mortar type business. However, you need to find a location for it, pay rent, utilities, phone, insurance, hire and fire employees, deal with local regulations, provide employee benefits, and the list goes on. In addition, you have to be consistent with your business hours or else you'll lose customers. I've known people who have this kind of business and within 5 years, they shut it down because of the high overhead, the stress, and the headaches in running it. If you take vacations, you need to have someone run the business. At the end of a period, you also need to deal with generating financial statements, in which, you need to hire a certified public accountant.

In the case of working a job, like most people do including me, whether it's full time or part time, you work under their terms, not yours. When working for someone else, you help them get promoted or get rich. One screw up determines your fate.

Many people like me dread waking up in the morning and have to go to work. That may include commuting for about an hour or two back and forth to your job. You may run into rush-hour traffic and may need to find parking when you get there. Isn't that terrible that you have to go through that just to make it through life? Giving yourself 20-40 years of your life with undying loyalty to work for someone and then just before you approach retirement age, you get laid off? How about doing a terrific job on a project and one day your time comes for a promotion and you don't make the cut. Or you went through several interviews and didn't get selected for a job that you might spend a good portion of your life. Is that what you want to go through? Leave your kids behind to go to work?

Anyone can do a home based business if they have the right attitude for it. As far as experience is concerned? I don't know. I believe it goes with the character and temperament of each person.

I'm sold in the business model used by the company I work with. It's a better model than what most businesses use and it's more convenient for the business owner.

In this business, give it about 4 consistent years and you'll make more than twice your boss.

I'm gonna borrow a phrase from Kim Klaver. Do you want to make the change or stay the way you are?

I encourage you to make the change. If you're currently employed, do your due diligence. There are tools that allow you to start your own business. There are also teams that can help you get your business going. However, the call is still yours...whether you want to make the change or stay the way you are.

One thing I would recommend to you is before you go into any venture, make sure you pick up a copy of Magnetic Sponsoring. How Does Keeping Your Friendships With Your Front-line Distributors is Beneficial

I want to talk about a couple of people who I thought are my friends and won’t give out names.

When I first sign up with this company, I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they tell me the truth that they will work with me in supporting my efforts to build my business. Unfortunately, they’re more concerned in building their business based on the old school using the FORM method.

I already told them that part of my business plan is based on the new school instead of the old school and you know what the old school is like. I’m not sure if I offended them, but long before they turned their back on me, they did told me that I can run my business the way I should feel like running it.

This one weekend between June and July of this year (won’t mention the exact date), they went to this company convention and since they got back from this thing, they stop being close to me, I’m not treated like we’re friends, despite me trying to maintain my friendships with them. I really value their friendship just like they value mine, but something in that convention made them do a 180 degree turn on our friendship.

They emphasize that I should focus more on earning that first pin level, then concentrate on recruiting. Since I have the new school of networking mindset, I feel that customers should be in the top of the list. After all, 1 out of 10, you have a better chance in closing the sale and probably get referrals. They claim that it was easier to bring in business builders, so they asked me to focus on that instead. This would go against what I believe in and put customers on the bottom of the list. After all, they claim that it was harder for them to get customers. When I suggested that customers must always be on the top of the list, it sort of offended them and yes, there goes my friendships with them as well.

Most of the distributors in the company I work with spend their time recruiting other distributors. I even heard some people awarded by the company for signing up an X amount of distributors a month.

If I remember, Kim Klaver said in one of her classes that most of the top-level distributors only had less than 10 front-line distributors and made the most out of the magic of network marketing. I preferred to have only up to 12 front-line distributors and spend more time growing their organization. In addition, I would get to keep our friendships with them and that is also healthy for my organization.

In contrast, those who I work with are spending their time doing three thing…recruiting, recruiting, and recruiting. How can you work with 200 distributors in your front line and maintain a good relationship with them? What happened to the customers? They’re back in the bottom of the list and I guess this is the reason why network marketing is getting a black eye.

What’s my point?

  • Keep your friendships with your front-line distributors by not having too many of them. About 8-12 front-liners is all you need and make the magic of network marketing work. Have you forgotten the 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 4 x … that can exponentially increase the number of your downline and be able to make gangster money?
  • Focus on helping your front-line distributors build their organization.
  • Spend more time on customer acquisition. After all, they must be on the top of your prospecting list. How did Sam Walton (WalMart) became the richest man in the world during his time? It’s because he had customers on the top of his list, not business builders nor distributors.
